ORCHESTRAS AND ENSEMBLES


The following orchestras and ensembles are currently offered by the Youth Orchestras of Central Virginia

The Youth Symphony: Full orchestra with approximately 60 members, comprised primarily of high-school-age musicians, performing original orchestral works. Conductor - Dr. Charles West

The Rita M. Evans Orchestra: Full orchestra with approximately 70 members, primarily comprised of middle-school-age musicians, performing arranged orchestral works. Conductor-Donald Brubaker, Winds/Brass coach-Robert Dunnenberger

The Junior Strings Program: String ensemble with approximately 30 young musicians of advanced beginning skills. This program serves as a preparatory orchestra for the Evans Orchestra. Director-Alicia Tobin

The Flute Ensemble: Flute ensemble with approximately six flutists of high school age, performing advanced and original flute choir repertoire. Directors-Angela Kelly and Margaret Newcomb

The Flute Choir: Flute ensemble with approximately 12 flutists of high school age, performing advanced flute choir repertoire. Directors - Angela Kelly and Margaret Newcomb

The Prélude Flute Choir: Flute ensemble with approximately 12 flutists with advanced beginning skills. This is a training ensemble and serves as a preparatory group for the Flute Choir. Directors - Angela Kelly and Margaret Newcomb

The Clarinet Ensemble: The newest ensemble, with approximately eight clarinetists of all ages, offers an opportunity to perform classical and orchestral clarinet repertoire. Director - James Tobin
